Mufi Hannemann’s parents raised him to have a strong sense for community service. He cites them as the main reason that he feels responsible to give back and help develop young people. He personally funds the annual Hannemann Scholarships for Hawaii high school scholar athletes, and also presents the Harvard Book Awards to worthy high school juniors. Every years he coaches and funds a girls basketball team called Team Aloha, that allows high school girls to compete in national tournaments and attack college recruiters. Hannemann founded the Pacific Century Fellows for the development of young business executives and has positively influenced the careers of hundreds of Hawaii’s top business people.
